What would you have for breakfast – bacon or tarantula? Tarantula has less fat, making it a healthier protein source. Some say it tastes like chicken, while others say it tastes like cod. Skuon, a city 47 miles from Phnom Penh in Cambodia, is the capital of tarantula cuisine.

The spiders are nurtured in holes in the soil. But if you don’t breed them, you may have to hunt them down in the jungle. It’s believed the dish was conceived when the Cambodia was under the Khmer Rouge and hunger was rampant. Today it’s a popular delicacy. On the eco side, insects are the most sustainable and inexpensive source of protein in the world and two thirds of the globe are eating it. So – tarantulas, anyone?
